UConnWomen's Boneyard
The Ultimate Women's Basketball Fan Board

Welcome to all fans of women's basketball. The Boneyard is a UConn forum, but we welcome all fans of women's basketball to the 'Yard. Topics here can range from high school girls basketball to the WNBA, from UConn field hockey to the Olympics and all are welcome to participate.

Who am I? My Boneyard handle is HuskyNan and I am the board admin. There are other people with admin capabilities and they are Tom (temery)and Fishy, the Publishers and men's board admins. On the women's board, JS111 and Biffster are Moderators. If you have any questions, comments or complaints, you can e-mail me at huskynan@yahoo.com or use the PM feature.

THE RULES

  • Here are Scout's Terms of Service Please be sure you read them. When you registered to be able to post on Scout.com, you agreed to these terms. Please be aware than violation of the Scout.com rules could mean banning from not only the Boneyard but also from the entire Scout network.

  • Do not trash the players. Any player, any team. Trashing includes comments on physical appearance (e.g. "ratface"), psychological profile (e.g. "psycho") or anything non-basketball related. Criticize the action, not the player. For example, instead of "She's a thug" say "She took a cheap shot when she pushed our player from behind." Opinions such as "She's a rotten rebounder" are NOT trashing, but anything that comes close to "She sucks" IS considered trashing and posters can be banned in egregious cases.

  • Similar to trashing is making harmful speculation. This is spreading non-substantiated (i.e., unconfirmed through a reliable source) rumors that could prove harmful to someone's reputation. Examples of harmful speculation would be claiming someone is pregnant, implying a relationship between a player/coach or player/player is harmful to a team or guessing that a recruit does/doesn't like someone based on sketchy knowledge. In order to make a statement that is detrimental in some way towards a player, coach, parent, etc there must be a reliable source (newspaper article) to back up the claim. A reliable source is not the cousin of an AAU teammate.

  • Rumors, in general, are ok. Just be sure that if you're posting a rumor it doesn't damage the reputation of a player or coach.

  • Don't swear at people. People manage to fudge the "don't swear" rule with asterisks and the such with comments like "What the h*ll are you talking about?", but when directed at a poster it is a violation of the board policy and a possible bannable offense. Personal attacks are not allowed and could also be considered a bannable offense.

  • Don't start transfer talk. Comments like "She should consider transferring" really add nothing to the board. Experience with transfer talk in the past has proven that the threads generally turn into arguments, name-calling and, frequently, harmful speculation. Therefore, speculating on transfers is not allowed on the Boneyard.

  • Do not give away Boneyarders' names or other personal information. This applies even when there are good intentions, such as linking an article to an accomplishment. If people would like to reveal their "real" names, they will do so themselves.

  • Using the Boneyard for commercial purposes is prohibited.

  • There are a lot of other fan boards on the internet. These are akin to the fans' "house" and statements made there are generally for discussion among that team's fans. Occasionally, inflammatory statements are made about UConn, the players and coaches. Please do NOT bring these inflammatory statements to the Boneyard. Sharing information such as recruiting, transfers and general gossip is fine, but dragging over a comment that serves no purpose but to inflame the UConn fans has no place on the Boneyard and will be deleted.

  • There are people who manage to avoid violating the letter of the rules but whose presence is a constant annoyance to the board. People who persist in upsetting or annoying the board through behavior such as the use of sarcasm, insults or other anti-social behavior can be banned even if they do not actually make personal attacks or use obscenities. The admins reserve the right to remove any person who continues to upset the board.

Not rules, but you should know...

  • Please do not question board policy or administrative decisions, such as post deletions, on the board. When a post is deleted, we believe most people who are familiar with our rules have a pretty good idea why. However, if you are genuinely puzzled by an administrative action or have constructive ideas about board policy, we are happy to discuss these things with you by email. On-board “undercutting” of the admins’ authority or chiding or “talking back” to them is unacceptable behavior and will be treated accordingly.

  • The internet allows for people to post on fan board with anonymity. This is both a good and a bad thing because the anonymity sometimes tempts people into rude behavior that they would never consider when discussing things face to face. Please take a look at this page for 'Netiquette, the internet etiquette. It's mostly common sense but sometimes it helps to see it in writing.

  • We UConn fans like our players and team better than anyone else's and we don't have to be objective if we choose not to be. You can't force us to like your players, team, coach, whatever by endlessly cataloging their merits. There are objective people here who will discuss other teams in a positive light but there are other UConn fans who don't want to hear anything about other teams and that's OK. This is a UConn board for all kinds of UConn fans, objective and non-objective alike.

  • There are literally hundreds of people who post or lurk here. UConn fans are in the majority and will be given greater leeway in their posts and attitudes because the Boneyard is a board for UConn fans. This is a moderated board and flame wars are not allowed. Moderating is the only way to manage the volume of traffic on this board. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to try to answer them for you. You can e-mail me at huskynan@yahoo.com.

  • There are many younger UConn fans here who are enthusiastic in their support of the Huskies. Many of them aren't interested in other teams or in being objective. Before responding harshly to a pro-UConn post that may seem disrespectful of your team, please consider that it could be one of our younger fans.
